Land, Ho!

Dear Friend,

Today is October 12th, 1492. WE HAVE FINALLY REACHED LAND!!! We have even met some of the local Indians! They seem like very kind people. In order to win their friendship, since I knew they were a people to be converted and won to our holy faith and by love and friendship rather than by force, I gave some of them red caps and glass beads which they hung around their necks, also many other trifles. These pleased them greatly and they became marvelously friendly to us. I can't wait to get back to Spain to tell the King and Queen of our discovery of a new route to India!

Losing Hope

Dear Friend,

We've been at sea for awhile now and there is still no sight of India. The men are losing hope, and I don't blame them. I really thought we would be in India by now, but this route is a lot longer than I thought it was going to be. Some of the men have asked me to turn us around and take us home. I have decided against it since I have a strong feeling that we will get to India. I know it is out there. I just hope they have enough faith in me to continue our journey. Talk to you soon!

A Quick Stop

Dear Friend,


Today is September 6, 1492. We made a small stop in the Canary Islands to restock on supplies and make some small repairs to the Ship. Everyone is still real excited about our trip, to India. We leave tomorrow in search of the new route. We are about to set sail yet again! Talk to you soon!

We set sail today, August 3, 1492, and so far everything is going well! Everyone seems really enthusiastic about our trip and can't wait to get to India, to be completely honest with you neither can I! I'm looking forward to seeing all the different and riches that India has to offer. And as always, I will keep you updated with how our trip is going.

What a day

Dear Friend,

Hello Again!

Boy, what a day! After weeks and weeks of asking the king and queen of Spain for funding I was finally able to convince them to help me pay for my trip! The date is set for August 3, 1492. The King and Queen were nice enough to let me take some of their men and their three ships, the nina, the pinta, and santa maria, with me for my voyage! I'm really excited about the trip and can't wait to set sail!

Hello!

My name Christopher Columbus. I was born in Italy on October 31st, 1451. Even though I am from Italy, I am trying to get the King and Queen of Spain to help me fund a trip since everyone here keeps laughing at me. They keep saying that if I try to sail west that I will fall off the world since they believe it to be flat. I know they are wrong! I know I can make it to India if I try! Just imagine, if I make it to India, I will get to see everything I read about in Marco Pollo's writings! I will also be rich, because I will have found a new route to India!! Then they will stop laughing at me! I'm going to visit the King and Queen tomorrow! I'll be sure to keep you updated on how it all goes!
